Hi, I’m Monet Goode.

My Approach

Told through dual perspectives, this remarkable true story for young adult readers follows two lives separated by decades yet mysteriously connected: a modern Ukrainian teenager and a Jewish boy struggling to survive in hiding during the Holocaust.

Nataliia, disillusioned by the growing conflict around her and worn down by bullying at school, begins to lose faith in people and in the future she once imagined for herself. An avid reader who once escaped into books, she reaches a breaking point and decides to throw them all away. But her grandmother—quietly observant, coy, and a little cunning—has other plans. Instead of stopping her, she leaves a stack of old letters in Nataliia’s path, almost as if she knew they would be discovered.

The letters belong to Eliezer, a Jewish boy writing about his experiences during World War II. At first, Nataliia can’t understand why these fragile pages exist in her family’s home. But as she reads, the past begins to unfold piece by piece, revealing a story of courage, danger, and unlikely kindness during one of history’s darkest moments.

As Nataliia follows the trail of the letters, she begins to uncover not only the hidden history of her family, but also a deeper understanding of resilience, memory, and the choices people make in times of war. Through Eliezer’s words, the past reaches across generations, challenging Nataliia to reconsider what she believes about humanity, forgiveness, and the possibility of hope.

Due out in summer 2026 from Astra Books for Young Readers, an imprint of Astra Publishing House, in partnership with Penguin Random House, this extraordinary true story explores how a single discovery can reconnect the past and present—and how the courage of one generation can illuminate the path for another.
